5 things to love about #NYC

Empire State Building NYC

There are many reasons to love NYC, but today, I would love to share my top 5 with you guys. It´s been a while since Sara and I came back from the city that never sleeps. For a very long period, NYC was on my bucket list of cities I definitely wanted to visit with a friend. I love traveling with my husband, but I knew NYC is one of those places you have to discover with a friend who shares your passion for random strolls, photography and fashion of course. The latest two are the reasons I had to share these pictures Sara took of me somewhere near the Grand Central Station.

Shortly before our NYC trip, I discovered a CD with my school project from 2005 which was all about the cities I wanted to visit when I start earning my own money. I wasn’t surprised to see NYC on my list, but seeing Shanghai was a huge surprise to me. Funnily, I’ve been to Shanghai even before NYC back in 2014. However, I should dedicate an extra blog post to my Shanghai trip some time soon. Today, as mentioned in the beginning, I would like to share my 5 things why I love(ed) NYC.

TOP 5 REASONS TO LOVE NYC

1.FOOD

As you’ve probably all noticed, I’m a more than a food lover. I would rather say I’m a food A D O R E R. If you hang out with me occasionally, you’ll notice my obsession for food very quickly. Having said that, NYC was the biggest food heaven I’ve ever experienced. You can literally find great food on every single corner. The food experience in NYC is completely different from any other city in the USA I’ve been to. Compared to LA or Chicago, where you usually have to look for good restaurants, in NYC, the good ones happen to find you. J However, we are working on our food guide for NYC and I shouldn’t tell you too much about it in this blog post.

2.ARCHITECTURE

Being a girl from the Bosnian county side, Vienna was my first “big city” I’ve ever visited back in 2010.  Back then, I was overwhelmed with the amazing architecture and I still couldn’t think of a prettier city to live in. However, entering NYC from the Grand Central Station, I had one of those rare wow-moments. Being surrounded by sooo many huge skyscrapers, one looking more beautiful than the other one, was definitely one of the moments I was looking forward for a long time. The architecture in NYC is photogenic like nowhere else and you are constantly tempted to take pictures of every single building. 🙂

3.PEOPLE

I spent my teenage years watching way too many American TV-shows and I was always amazed by the American casualness. Nevertheless, I secretly always though this overfriendly attitude could be a bit tiring. Having lived I a German-speaking country for the past 6 years didn’t help me become a more open person, but rather skeptical about any stranger that would approach me randomly. Having said this, it’s not necessarily easy to go with the American flow when I find myself in the US. However, even though I’m aware the so called “surface heartiness”, I tend to get used to it very quickly and even enjoy being surrounded by such positive and friendly vibes you literally experience in the US only. When going to NYC, you have to be prepared for people screaming from the other side of the road things like “You’ve got swagg girl” or “Your hair is sick”. You might be shocked on the first day, but when you learn the meaning of similar comments, you’ll fall in love with the American openness. 🙂

4.PARKS

Yes, there is THE park you have to visit when you happen to be in NYC, which is the famous Central Park. It’s incredibly beautiful and you can spend at least one whole day strolling around, enjoying the sun or taking part in one of the random yoga classes you come across. However, there are many other parks worth visiting like Bryant Park, which is located between the 5th and the 6th avenue. The location is perfect for a break in between or a take-away breakfast/lunch. Another cool thing about it are the movie nights during the summer months, but you have to make sure to check the exact days in advance.

5.GREENWICH VILLAGE

Last but not least, the “corner” in NYC I loved most. Not necessarily close to the generally popular spots in the city, but a part I enjoyed so much. Greenwich Village has sooo much to offer in so many terms like food, architecture, as well as best shops to get lost in. Known as an artists’ haven and the Bohemian capital of NYC, its colorful and artistic residents will leave you breathless and make you dream about how they could look like on the inside. Best thing to do: get lost in the side streets and get some food in a random restaurant. Remember: you don’t get bad food in NYC. J

Having written down my top 5, I could definitely keep adding many things to my list. However, this blog post is about the very top 5 and I’m happy to share them with you guys. The next NYC blog post is definitely going to be about food…lots of food! Have I mentioned how much I love food?
