A while ago, we were asked to give an interview for a fashion magazine and one of the questions was “How would you describe your style? My first thought: No idea!! I had to think about it more than twice, because I found it anything but easy to describe “my style”. Edgy, sporty, girly, mannish? To be honest, it mostly depends on my current mood, because you can find so many different styles in my wardrobe. Today, I’m sharing with you an edgy biker outfit and tomorrow – it could be a romantic flower-power look or something completely different. To me, the beautiful thing about fashion is the diversity and the freedom to express our mood and current feelings through our clothes. To some, this might sound entirely superficial. However, fashion has always been used as a tool to attract attention, communicate feelings, dazzle, impress and sometimes even shock. People chose to dress for themselves and utilize their clothing choices as an opportunity to wear and show their personal emotions.
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
EDGY BIKER LOOK: Leather Jacket, Slip Dress & Biker Boots
Styling a biker look can sometimes be challenging. The style has its name from the “biker culture”, however, we don’t necessarily need or want to make the impression of being a real Harley-fan. In my eyes, pulling off a street-style-biker-look is all about the right balance between the single pieces.
I wanted my look to be edgy and biker-like to make a statement, but it still needed to appear feminine and polished. Wearing this eye-catching heavy leather jacket with rivets implied to keep the rest of the outfit subtle, yet interesting. I styled it with a pair of black leather boots and layered an oversized sweater over a slip dress. To round everything up and soften the whole look, I chose my favorite Pinko bag with white romantic pearls.
MY 5 TIPS FOR AN EDGY, YET FEMININE BIKER LOOK
- Leather is a must, but you don’t need to exaggerate
- Play around with different materials to create a smooth mixture
- Integrate lace. Your slip dress is meant to be sexy, but you should downplay it with some edgy pieces to make it acceptable to wear during the day. Leather jackets + slip dresses = perfect match
- Play with your hair and create a low ponytail for a sleek and polished look
- Finish your look with a feminine red lipstick
