NYC outfit no 2: Diesel tee, black maxi skirt, superga sneakers

After I showed you my first outfit from NYC, it’s time for another one :). This time I’m wearing a piece of clothing I bought 3 years ago and it still is one of my favorite pieces. That’s why I love investing in timeless pieces, because it’s not just something you wear for one season, and when it becomes stale, you get rid of it. No, it’s something you find every year hidden in your closet and are tickled when you can wear it again :).

Why to Invest in Timeless Pieces?

Are you a person who jumps on the bandwagon of every trend or rather the one who invests in timeless pieces you can wear every year again?

Well, I am not entirely a person who only buys clean, timeless pieces. I have to admit that, but the main part of my closet consist of pieces like these. I don’t like to just follow trends when it comes to: pants, skirts, coats and jackets. These are basic pieces I don’t like to change every season.

Of course, there were lots of times I bought something I found too cool because it was cheap and trendy. And what happened? After a couple of months, I didn’t like the pieces anymore – money wasted. But you learn from your mistakes, right? That’s why as I decided to change my shopping behavior. As  I tidied out my closet, I took a closer look at all my clothes and set aside the things I knew I wouldn’t wear any more. Now imagine, which clothes were the ones that were left – exactly – the pieces I invested in.

When it comes to trends, I like to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to accessories and shoes, since I love clean, timeless outfits and just adding a pinch of color to them with bags or edgy shoes.

Now imagine an outfit with a basic tee, a pair of skinny jeans or a cool skirt. If you combine it with the main accessory trends or shoes of the season, your outfit is totally en vogue. The next season you can wear the same clothes and just switch the accessories; and you’re still en vogue.

Do Timeless Clothes Have to Be Expensive?

No, no and no!

In my opinion, style has nothing to do with money. There are so many people on the streets you see wearing very expensive clothes, yet still the outfits have a cheap touch to them. Timeless pieces don’t have to be expensive, but it is very important to mind the fabric.

Now to this skirt – believe it or not, it cost less than €20. How? Well, 3 years ago I got in touch with a dressmaker from Serbia whom you could send a picture of a piece of clothing you wanted to have, your body measurements and she made the piece just as it looked on the pic. I tried it and I just couldn’t believe it :D. For the first time in my life I had a maxi skirt that was not too long and which fit me at my 60-cm-waist XD (believe me, it is really hard to find any high waist clothes if you’re as skinny and as small as I am :D).

And still, 3 years after I bought it, I’m still being asked where I bought this skirt :D. So again, no, timeless clothes don’t have to be expensive at all :).

I WAS WEARING:

    Hallo Sara,
