Every change of seasons I’m going through my wardrobe and clear it out. On one side there are the pieces I store away to wear them the next season again and on the other side there are the pieces I’m selling on a flea market or giving away. And guess which pieces always find their way back into my wardrobe? Right: the timeless basics. Not the pieces you buy because they’re trendy right now, but the classics you can wear in ten years again. I still have some pieces I bought 5 – 6 years ago and still love wearing them. Now these pieces are really worth investing in and here they are:
THE WHITE BLOUSE
The white blouse is probably THE basic piece of clothing. You can wear today and for the next 20 years. Button-down or no buttons at all. In my opinion, the best choice is a pure cotton bluse, a bit oversized so you can style it differently.
Here are some different ideas on how to wear it:
1. The classic way – buttons closed or the first 3 buttons opened. Let it over your trousers
2. Stick it into the trousers (I would to that only when wearing high waist trousers)
3. Open more buttons and show one shoulder (as I am wearing here)
4. Show both shoulders
5. Put on a belt around your waist or even a belt bag
WIDE-CUT TROUSERS
When I think of a sophisticated outfit, the first thing that comes to my mind is a pair of wide-cut trousers.
When it comes to this piece of clothing, the most important thing you must consider is the length. The ideal length is when they just reach the ground. Under no circumstance should they be shorter!!!
My recommendation: It’s better to buy a pair that is too long. Put on your favorite shoes you’ll want to wear with the trousers and head to a dress maker in order to get the perfect length.
BLOCK HEEL SANDALS
If you had just one pair of sandals, it should definitely be a pair of block heels. They’re
1. Elegant
2. Sexy
3. Comfortable
I bought these sandals 4 years ago and every summer I look forward to wearing them again. They’re so elegant and I can walk the whole day in these shoes.
THE ULTIMATE INVESTMENT: THE CLASSIC BAG
Even if you’re wearing a totally basic outfit, the bag can do so much for the outfit and upgrade it to a whole new level. If you take a look at my whole outfit, it didn’t cost more than € 100,-. Now the bag is something I’ve invested in and to me it is worth every cent.
For years, I’ve been thinking of buying a designer bag, but I could never decide. There were so many bags which were all over Instagram and honestly… I’m happy I didn’t buy them because I’d probably have sold them after a season or two. I was rather looking for a classic bag I could wear for years and that’s definitely this Fendi By The Way Mini Bag :).
