Every season again there is a new trend that experiences its huge comeback, so the next big thing isn’t always hard to predict. This season the fashion world offers us for Spring Summer 2018 classic, ladylike polka dots. They have their origins in the tradition of the Czech form of dance – polka dance, so the word “polka” is derived from the Polish for “woman” – in Czech translated to “little girl”.
“There is never a wrong time for a polka dot” – Marc Jacobs
Polka dots are a timeless classic that we always enjoy seeing on the runways in their many changes of style. Christian Dior, Gucci, Balenciaga & Co. offer us various types of polka dots styles – from classic dots to a new take on the motif. Micro, maxi, colored polka dots or mixed with other patterns – there is everything the heart could possibly desire.
In my humble opinion, the polka dot dresses are the icing on the cake. They are a versatile classic wardrobe icons, which can work for any occasion from off-duty shopping trips to meetings at the office, even into wedding season. They’re that versatile.
Moreover, polka dot dresses are the key to the successful retro style. They remind me of the movies of the 50’s and the beautiful women who wore these dresses. The perfectly tailored dresses played around the women’s bodies and showed more figure than perhaps ever before. Polka dots were and still are the epitome of femininity and a symbol of fashion history. Even unforgettable style icons like Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe wore polka dot dresses and had the charm of 50’s elegance.
Today, I’ve combined a dark blue polka dot dress with a turtle and slings in order to preserve the authentic charm of the 50’s. I love the classic vintage vibe of dark & white, because you simply cannot do anything wrong with it. A turtle under the dress is a great choice when the weather doesn’t play along, so I can wear a dress even at colder times of the year. Funnily enough, my feet are never cold, so I could wear my new slings for the first time this season. Finally, a small red bag rounds off the outfit and creates a colorful accent on the whole look.
How do you like my look? Do you think that polka dots are IN or not?
